Janet D. Rider, LCSW-R, CASAC
Janet earned her BA in Psychology at SUNY/Buffalo and her MSW from The SU School of Social Work. She has additional training in the work of Virginia Satir and has maintained on-going training for her CASAC certification in drug and alcohol treatment. Both her recovery and her mental health treatment include spiritual topics in a variety of expressions and beliefs for those interested in this aspect of healing and growth.
With over 30 years experience in counseling, Janet tailors her approach to each individual client's needs and style of learning. She beleives that, while necessary insights and skills are acquired, each person has, within them, wisdom for their own healing. Janet incorporates strength-based, insight oriented, cognitive-behavioral, expressive and psychoeducational techniques, among others. She has experience in addressing alcohol and other drug problems, dual focus recovery, domestic violence, self-esteem and identity, mood disorders, gender and sexuality issues and has utilized play therapy with young children.
Janet has lived in Central New York since 1982 and enjoys swimming, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and the arts.
